Day 8 – Temple 23

Just a walk down the road from where I stayed was Temple 23 Yakuooji in Minami town. Not that aren’t a lot of beautiful places I’ve been so far but this was probably a favourite.

Not only was it beautiful in its own right but it had a view over the entire, the local castle and the ocean from the pagoda up top of the main hondo and kobo Daishi halls. That’s unusual as I’ve seen a few pagodas of course but this one was the first you could go inside.

At the top, I met another henro and he took a picture of me there. He said he’d email me when he posted it to his blog but I haven’t had the email yet to check. Will update once I have this.

There’s one picture of a man tapping a gong. The story is that you tap it drive misfortune away. However, you tap it once for every year old you are. I noticed a lot of people chuckling a little after they’d been tapping for more than 30 seconds.
