This was another big day.
It started with Uppenji, Temple 66, which is the highest of all temples at 850m up. Thankfully, you start about 250m up but that doesn’t make it more fun. Once I got to the top it was cloudy so no ab-fab views but a wonderful place nonetheless. I could easily do two posts on Uppenji but I won’t.
Temple 67 has a hard time coming right after 66. Pleasant and small by comparison. They were very nice though and gave me a chestnut cake as o-settai. Not sure yet but the chestnuts may have come from a tree planted by Kukai that still lives on the temple grounds by the gate.
Temples 68 and 69 were odd ones. They are literally joined at the hip, sharing a gate and a stamp office but two separate hall systems and enshrined deities. On top of that the main hall for 68 is inside this concrete box for reasons unknown. So in that section you’ll see 68’s halls first then 69’s then some general stuff.
