In case you missed it, many of these Buddhist shrines still have Shinto grounds attached to them. There was a time when they were forcibly separated and you read about this often in the guide books.
This temple didn’t have the usual big niomon wooden gate you usually see at these temples and that’s not too surprising. However, you could see the big red torii gate from a ways off that is a tell tale sign for a Shinto shrine. So, at first I thought might be off base. Then a big tour bus pulled up and the place filled up with ohenro so I knew I was okay.
I usually don’t do much with the Shinto shrines as I don’t know how to show respect there. However, I grabbed a couple pix from the top step area.
I also left via a different route so I snapped the last pick from a nearby hill slope of the full temple.
