I know this blog has been quiet for some time. I think it’s time for at least a couple updates. Here’s the first.<\/p>\n

This summer, I also did another trip I’ve wanted to do for a while: Desolation Peak.<\/p>\n

I actually wanted to do this the same year I did Shikoku but wound up putting it off. Partially because Shikoku was considerable but also because I wanted a hiking partner. After a few years of failing to find someone who could or would go with me, I just solo hiked it.<\/p>\n

Here is the super condensed version of the three-day hike.<\/p>\n

In the far distance is\u00a0 Desolation Peak from maybe about 15km away.<\/p>\n

I came from the south side walking along Ross Lake. You don’t spend a lot of time that close to Ross Lake but when you are near Ross Lake, it is gorgeous and about as long as Saanich Inlet.<\/p>\n

Lightning Creek campground. I was accosted by chipmunks here. One took my spork. That was about it. Most important though is that it’s one of the closest campgrounds to the peak.<\/p>\n

A view from the smaller summit you hike first before approaching Desolation Peak. You can see the cabin here. It is three pixels wide though.<\/p>\n

At Desolation Peak at last. The first panorama is south-to-north and the second north-to-south. That’s Ross Lake in the distance of the first photo.<\/p>\n

A close-up of the lookout. This is the lookout Jack Kerouac once stayed at one summer and wrote about\u00a0 in his books The Dharma Bums and Desolation Angels.<\/p>\n

And finally, Mt. Hozomeen to the north of Desolation Peak. Kerouac also mentioned this view numerous times as well.<\/p>\n
