This was another long day. Four temples and a lot of the day spent walking about in moutainy areas.<\/p>\n
Temple 79 was the only temple I saw with this kind of torii gate. I think it was probably due to the fact that this shrine was first devoted as a Shinto shrine to a healing spring and then later dual-purposed for Buddhism as well but I don’t know. I didn’t see the spring either buy I think it’s elsewhere now.<\/p>\n
Temple 80 was at the bottom of the hill before 81 and 82. It’s bell is a national treasure and for \u00a5100 you can ring it so I did. No pics if the second hall (daishido) as per their request. The white pagoda is the best outside pic I could get.<\/p>\n
Temple 81 had something you can’t see but I have heard at only one other temple: a loud speaker system that was constantly playing prayers and chants. I couldn’t make out most of what was being said though. So-so audio and only passable nihon-go.<\/p>\n
Temple 82 has a monument to a cow-demon in its parking lot. The locals believe it was defeated due to prayers offered here. You also couldn’t approach its hondo (main hall) directly, you were rerouted through a hall of Buddhas before you could get the front and left coming backing through another hall of Buddhas, forming a small courtyard in front.<\/p>\n
