He was famous for sleeping under bridges sometimes when he travelled. As such, you are always supposed to lift your staff when crossing bridges so that the tapping does not wake him if he&#8217;s there.<\/p>\n<p>Bangai 8 is devoted to an episode of his bridge sleeping. When I got there though I was really surprised by it as it is so unlike other temples. What was once a simple bride Kukai once slept under is now a busy through way with another highway running over it.<\/p>\n<p>The temple is small but the men there were very nice and gave me a place to stay there. Plus, the part under the bridge is quite nice too. Across from the Daishi under the bridge though is a feed station for birds and river carp by donation.
